Recorded in the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, The Reading Pagoda is a historic site, a 7-story building built in 1908 and donated to the city in 1911. Built atop the south end of Mount Penn and secured to the mountainside with 16 tons of bolts, Our beloved Pagoda is known throughout the entire world. It is 72 feet tall and there are 87 steps to the top floor! The bell at the top is Japanese and was made in 1739. At 620 feet above the City of Reading it offers a beautiful 30-mile panoramic view of Berks County
